It was a really interesting game. Leicester had a lot of chances but didn’t take them while Liam Delap had a shot from the edge of the box which deflected and looped into the far corner. Sometimes you need that little bit of fortune. I think recently we haven’t really had the rub of the green but things are always bound to change. Peter SmithIf you don't get a result, this game won't define Stoke’s season? Neil: We're certainly not going here and ruling the game out. The game is there for us to play and try to get a result. Yes, we’ve got our difficulties but I believe with the lads we’ve got available, if we can get our set-up right and give them the best chance of performing in the game, we’ve got an opportunity of going there and being difficult to beat and seeing if we can get something. Peter SmithThere were another couple of injuries on Tuesday, how are Hoever and Wilmot? Neil: Injured. Is anyone liable to come back? Neil: I'm not sure yet. Peter SmithSo it’s about how you handle set-backs like this as players and staff? Neil: If it's going well it's easy, isn't it? Everybody grins and smiles and takes all the plaudits that come their way. There's always a lot of talk about staying together, being a team and supporting each other. It is Stoke's first visit to the King Power Stadium since 2018 and they are looking for their first win there since a Bojan-inspired triumph in January 2015. These sides last met in the Championship back in May 2008 and a game that confirmed Stoke's promotion to the Premier League and Leicester's relegation to League One. Having 10 or 12 minutes added onto the games doesn’t help and obviously the intensity we’re trying to play at. It’s left the squad quite vulnerable at the moment. Peter SmithWith so many injuries, do you focus more on the opposition in your preparations? Neil: I think our focus is 50-50 really. We always focus on the opposition in terms of how they're going to play, where the biggest threats are going to be so we can try to nullify them, where we’re willing to give them the game because there’s not a fool-proof plan for any system, there’s always going to be somewhere we need to give so we can keep ourselves compact. We’ll do the same for this one. Then with the personnel we've got, we'll try to come up with a manner which gives us a threat going the other way. I thought that leaving two up the pitch the other night against Southampton worked well for us because it kept the ball up when we got it up there, which is not something we've done on a regular basis. I thought for that game, I think you could see transition, when we turned it over, was always going to be our best source of attack. So, yeah, we'll take care of both aspects. Neil: I'm not sure this is the game to be talking about having prolific scorers all over the pitch. I think we’ll be in better shape once the international break is over and we come back. I think most teams that have been to Leicester this season have found it difficult but they’ve been in the game for periods so it’s about making sure you capitalise on any opportunities that come your way. Hull are the one team who have beat them and I watched the game. I know people will argue against that because they came down but I think consistently before that for a good number of years, they've been really competitive in the Premier League. And they've added some players who give it an element of freshness and I think that's the two bits you need to balance off. You have to make sure you get the best money you can for lads who want to leave, get good replacements who are going to be more than good enough for the Championship and will compete in the Premier League, certainly in the short-term, and make sure that the key players who want to be a the club and help get the club back to where they were have a prominent role. I think that he's ticked all those boxes and covered all the bases. That sort of stuff comes to the fore when you’ve got injuries which are spread across the squad, when you’re going to a difficult place and maybe when you’re not picking up as many results as you’d like. That’s when that is really tested. Peter SmithAre you looking forward to this break? Neil: Well, this is going to be our seventh game in 21 days and we’ve got through a couple of rounds in the cup and the draws we’ve had haven’t been particularly kind: West Brom was a local rival so everybody at the club obviously wants to win that game, then Bournemouth away, which is a really difficult game including all the travel and that sort of stuff which comes with it. To have these games back to back to back to back to back, I think, explains why we’ve lost some players due to the load we’ve had to go through these games. Predicted XI v Stoke as Maresca hints at changes with big decision to makeEnzo Maresca has again hinted at rotation for Leicester City’s Championship clash with Stoke with fresh legs potentially brought in a bid to make it six leagues win on the bounce. The City boss had said before the midweek win over Preston that he needed to consider the risk of injuries amid a busy schedule and suggested he would make changes. However, he swapped just one player – Conor Coady for the suspended Jannik Vestergaard. With City back in action fewer than 72 hours later, rotation could be considered so that some members of the squad avoid starting a third match in seven days. Most read in football. “We’ll see tomorrow. In the way they work, they deserve all of them to play again. ” There are a few decisions for Maresca to make, the biggest of which is whether to bring Vestergaard back into the fold now he’s available again. The Dane was doing well before his ban, so could take back his place from Coady. For the final few minutes of the game against Preston, Hamza Choudhury came on to give James Justin a break, with the England international one of two players, along with Ricardo Pereira, to have started all of the previous three games. That could be a consideration for Maresca from the start against Stoke if he feels Justin has been overworked.
